Congenital Heart Disease and Other Malformations Produced by Influenza a Virus and Allantoic Fluid in the Chick Embryo.

چکیده
II Although a number of explanations have been suggested, the etiology of congenital heart disease is still unknown. The teratogenie agents used in the experiments of other investigators" are seldom those encountered in clinical practice. Bpidemiological studies" have revealed the role of viral infections in the production of human cardiac malformations ; this led us to investigate the effect of influenza A virus on the production of congenital heart disease in the chick embryo. Influenza A virus was chosen for our experiments because: a) its effect on the development of the heart has not been studied, even though cpidcmiological and experimental" data have shown it to be capable of producing congenital malformations; b) it is the cause of frequent infections in human beings, including pregnant women; and c) it is easy to grow in the chick embryo.

In order to adapt LaSota strain of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) on chick embryo fibroblast (CEF) cells, 0.1 ml from LaSota vaccine produced in Razi vaccine and serum research institute inoculated to the CEF cells and was passaged five times in the CEF grown in Eagle’s minimum essential medium (MEM). First to third passages were blind but in fourth passage cytopathic effect of virus was observe...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Embryonic Pathological Lesions and Efficacy of Amantadine against H9N2 Influenza Virus Using Chicken Embryo Model
Background & Aims: Various antiviral drugs such as amantadine are used to treat influenza. This drug is categorized in group C and few researches have been conducted about its toxic effects on human fetus. In the current study, the pathologic effects of the drug as well as drug efficacy in reducing influenza virus titer in the developing chicken embryo were assessed. <br ...

The aim of this project was to find out if influenza virus were involved in causing upper respiratory disease among susceptible people. One hundred and forty threat washings were collected from the patients living in Karaj, Tehran, and Mashhad during autumn and winter seasons in 1993. Sixty samples (43%) belonged to men and the rest were from women. All samples were inoculated into the amniot...
متن کاملDetection of avian influenza virus of H9 subtype in the feces of experimentally infected chickens by RT–PCR
Avian Influenza (AI) is a viral respiratory disease of domestic and wild birds. In the diagnostic laboratory, it is essential to have methods for rapid detection of avian respiratory viruses. Cloacal swabs collected from chickens experimentally infected with H9 subtype AI virus, used in a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay for detection of AI. In infected animals, ...
متن کاملSTUDIES ON HOST-VIRUS INTERACTIONS IN THE CHICK .: EMBRYO-INFLUENZA VIRUS SYSTEM* IlL DEVELOPMENT OF INFECTIVITY, HEMAGGLUTINATION, AND COMPLEMENT FIXATION ACTIVITIES DURING THE FIRST INFECTIOUS CYCLE
Certain of the experiments reported in the preceding paper suggested that propagation of influenza virus in or on the cells lining the aUantoic sac of the chick embryo can be divided into two major phases. According to this suggestion, the first phase would correspond to the production of some incomplete non-infectious forms or building blocks of the virus which, in the second phase, are conver...
